Yide edac-q270 motherboard evaluation: fed up with the same motherboard also has a new form of play

As the core carrier of DIY platform, motherboard is very important, but limited by the shape and function requirements, it has received far less attention than CPU and graphics card and other performance hardware. For a long time, it lacks some bright breakthroughs. In recent years, the biggest “innovation” may be the RGB lamp effect on armor and large-area heat dissipation fins, but on the whole, it still needs to be improved But can not jump out of the normal form of the motherboard.

We’ve seen a lot of conventional motherboards, but today we get the edac-q270 from Yide, an old industrial control motherboard manufacturer, which is very “special”. It first installs the CPU slot on the back of the motherboard. Next, let’s see what new changes this design can bring to the motherboard.

Appearance appreciation

Yide edac-q270 uses pure green PCB board which is common in industrial control motherboard. This color matching is not common in products in consumer market. The overall design language is very industrial control style, with no redundant elements for embellishment. The layout is quite regular, and the size is the standard ATX specification.

It is not difficult to see from its appearance that the main feature of this motherboard is to install the CPU slot and other high calorific chips on the back of the motherboard, while the front still retains the power supply module, power slot and various expansion interfaces. This design will separate the CPU from other connectors on the motherboard, and will reconstruct the hardware layout and heat dissipation design of the whole platform.

In terms of general parameters, this motherboard adopts q270 / B250 chipset, is equipped with lga1151 slots, supports the sixth and seventh generation core series processors, is equipped with two PCI 3.0×16 slots (the lower slot supports X4 mode at most), and is also equipped with an m.2 slot compatible with both SATA and pciex2 modes.

This motherboard is equipped with four DDR4 memory slots, which can support up to 64GB capacity. Slots 1 and 3 are in red color, and slots 2 and 4 are in black color, which can effectively avoid errors when installing dual channel memory.

In terms of I / O interface, the motherboard has all kinds of conventional interfaces. Compared with the ordinary motherboard, the biggest feature is that it is equipped with two gigabit network interfaces, which can directly support soft routing, NAS and other application scenarios. In terms of other interfaces, they are also equipped with the relatively rare and “traditional” PS2, DVI and VGA interfaces in the motherboard.

What new changes can flip motherboard bring?

The first is the use of heat dissipation module. Ordinary motherboards are limited by the space and location of other components on the front. In most cases, they can only use water-cooled and air-cooled radiators, while passive heat dissipation module is limited by its size, which can only meet the heat dissipation requirements of low-power processor (& lt; 15W). On the motherboard of Yide, because the radiator slot is on the back, the compatibility with the radiator can be greatly improved.

In addition to being compatible with conventional air-cooled and water-cooled radiators, its best partner is obviously the large-area passive radiator from Yide, which can easily meet the cooling requirements of the 6th / 7th generation Intel non-k series processors (TDP is 65W).

In the heat dissipation capacity test, the prime95 was used for half an hour in silent frequency with core i7-6700k, and successfully passed the pressure test. The maximum temperature was only 72 ℃. However, due to the heat transfer principle of passive heat dissipation, the cooling rate was not as efficient as air cooling and water cooling after the end of the machine (the screenshot in the figure above is about 10 s later, it only dropped by 10 ℃), which is not suitable This performance is amazing enough for the passive radiator to meet the daily needs without pressure.

The powerful passive cooling capability brings the top-level silence performance. In the ordinary platform, because most of the cooling fans of power supply and graphics card on the market support automatic start stop technology, the CPU cooling fan is the biggest noise source in the chassis. Using this motherboard and its own passive radiator, you can easily achieve zero noise performance in daily use.

This unique form also brings a wider DIY space to this motherboard. The back mounted CPU can easily realize high-end DIY playing methods such as “fish tank heat dissipation”. As can be seen from Yide’s official website, exclusive accessories such as “CPU reverse mounted dream fish tank” will be launched to facilitate consumers to customize DIY.

And ordinary players can also achieve excellent installation effect by choosing suitable mod chassis. The huge space left by the front panel also leaves more playability for it. It can easily load led display, model and other modules, bringing more personalized experience.

Summary of pconline evaluation room

Yide’s putting CPU slots and some high heating chips on the backplane this time is a good start for this “flip chip” configuration. In the future, it should launch some new products based on this configuration. In addition to the conventional operations of upgrading chipsets, there will be greater breakthroughs in the DIY space of the front panel, the layout of the PCI slots and the optimization of the power supply layout.

As far as this new product is concerned, it is a good attempt for Yide, an industrial control brand. When there are few breakthroughs in product form and appearance in the current consumer market, its entry may bring something different to the motherboard market. What’s your opinion on this product?
